Insights on the DRC Sanctions Committee
The final member of the Panel of Experts of the DRC Sanctions Committee may soon be appointed. There has been some difficulty filling the position of the financial expert due to objections from some Council members to the original candidate. The Secretary-General informed the Council of the appointment of the other five members of the panel on 17 February.
It now appears that a new candidate has been identified and if he meets with the approval of all Council members the Secretary-General is expected to announce his appointment shortly. The other members of the panel are already in the DRC.
The Group of Experts is expected to report to the Council through the DRC Sanctions Committee on 18 May and then again on 17 October.
