Negotiations on South Kordofan Press Statement
Council members are currently negotiating a press statement on South Kordofan. On Monday, Council members were briefed on the situation in Sudan and South Sudan by Under-Secretary Generals for peacekeeping and humanitarian affairs, Alain Le Roy and Valerie Amos.
It seems Council members are discussing ways of condemning the ongoing violence and getting the government of Sudan and the SPLM-North to cease hostilities and resume dialogue. It appears there is also interest in including humanitarian access and human rights violations and possibly in conveying Council members’ readiness to provide UN assistance in the implementation of future agreements in South Kordofan and Blue Nile states.
