Insights on Haiti
On Thursday, 24 April, Council members had their second round of negotiations at the expert level on the draft presidential statement which is expected to be adopted at the high-level debate on Haiti on 6 April. During the Colombia’s presidency of the Council, Haiti is expected to be a top priority issue with its president possibly chairing this debate.
Although there were still some differences over language on development and security, Council members appear to have come to a general agreement on the basic content of the draft presidential statement. They are now waiting for the preliminary results of Haiti’s run-off presidential elections before finalising the draft presidential statement.
